A Blog with New Ideas
I got some good tips from a blog that I never saw before. I found some interesting advice about money and investing as well as some tips for better personal and business relationships. That is an interesting combination of topics, but its from a personal blog. The blog author runs a web directory but also writes this blog to share stories and experiences too. The blog is blog.Za7.org. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan and talks about fun and strange things he finds there. He blogged about a festival in Chichibu and talked about how special the event was to the local people.
The Za7 Blog also discusses people and psychology with insights about communication and business relationships. I found some fun ideas about how to relate to people in different job and work situations. I thought I knew how to deal with people but it seems this is always changing as well. We seems to evolve in our approach to thinking as we age and experience more. We see things differently because our needs and desires change with us. It is because of this that our perception is ever-changing. We need to be aware of it and use it appropriately. I learned that from the blog. That is refreshing to find on a web directory blog.
There is also a bunch of information about running a web directory and how to help people promote their own sites. I learned a lot about what sites are providing value and what sites are just providing a place for Adsense. It is quite shocking to me that some sites only exist to grab your attention long enough for you to click away to another site. It seems wasteful and distracting. Most of the time you don’t even want what is on that site. I like sites that offer value to the reader and make them think. Take a look at the Za7 blog to find more insights about website value and web directory value.
Richard Dawkins on Marketing
Richard Dawkins has some lessons to teach us about marketing.
He makes some really obnoxious statements, calls religious people all sorts of offensive names, and supports legislation that would treat sharing religion with children as a crime. Surely he makes Stalin look like a reasonable chap by comparison.
Now a lot of folks would think that such outrageous idiocy would be tantamount to business suicide, but when the business is selling books, this kind of trollish approach is a recipe for success. Dawkins book is a best seller.
Live and learn, eh?
Design Is A Key In Web Directory Draw
I’m currently using the dmoz web directory, but a friend of mine drew my attention to a new contender for the top spot of the web directories available out there on the Internet. He said he’d started using Web Directory 7 in the spring and had such good experiences he couldn’t understand why I’d still be stuck at dmoz.
Dmoz hasn’t been all bad but there have been minor disappointments. I’m not crazy about their design, first of all. If I’m not crazy about it, I wonder who else out there might be. I tend to think I have a pretty solid design sense, since that’s the nature of the business I’ve owned and run successfully for the last twenty-five years.
My friend Hartwig spends a lot more time than I do online, since I usually leave all the techie stuff to my son. Hartwig first heard mentions of v7n on newsgroups he’d subscribed to. I just don’t have time to get involved in all of that stuff, but lucky for me, my friends are keeping me updated on who the Internet movers and shakers are these days.
